Skin Care

Picture

Cleansing

After wrapping your hair with a towel or headband, the esthetician begins a facial with a thorough cleansing using a cleanser, suitable for the client's skin type.

Steam

Most facials include a machine that directs a thin vapor of warm steam to your face. This is relaxing and helps to soften up any blackheads and whiteheads. If you have very sensitive skin, the esthetician may not use steam.

Exfoliation

A cosmetician exfoliates the skin using a mechanical or enzyme exfoliant. Mechanical exfoliants have a gritty texture that rubs away the surface dead skin cells. Enzyme exfoliants contain enzymes which loosen the bond between skin cells making them easier to remove off of the skin's surface.

Extraction

This is a removal of blackheads or whiteheads. It can be uncomfortable, especially on thin or ruddy skin.

Facial Massage

It is used to both relax and stimulate the client’s skin and facial muscles.

Facial Mask

A cosmetician chooses a appropriate mask according to the client’s skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature) and condition of the skin.

Application of Toner, Serums and Moisturizer

This is the last step in a facial. Toner is used to restore skin's pH balance after using a cleanser because cleansers raise the skin's natural pH to a level that isn't good for your skin. Serums are highly concentrated with anti-aging and other beneficial ingredients for your skin. Moisturizer locks in the moisture – hydrates the skin, it can also mattify the skin. Most of moisturizers are also appropriate as a base for makeup.
